Bed Bug Treatment in Southeast Michigan

Bed bugs are one of the most stressful pest problems a home or business owner can face. They spread quickly, hide in hard-to-reach places, and are nearly impossible to eliminate without professional treatment. Regal Pest Control has been treating bed bug infestations throughout Southeast Michigan for over 25 years. We inspect thoroughly, treat aggressively, and follow up to make sure the problem is resolved.

We treat single-family homes, apartments, condos, hotel rooms, multi-unit buildings, and commercial properties. If you’ve found signs of bed bugs or are waking up with unexplained bites, call us. The sooner treatment begins, the easier it is to get ahead of the infestation.

Signs You May Have Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are experts at hiding. Most people don’t see a live bug until the infestation is already established. Look for these warning signs.

Stains on Bedding or Mattress Seams

Small rust-colored or dark brown spots on your sheets, pillowcases, or along mattress seams are often crushed bugs or fecal deposits. Check the seams, tufts, and tags of your mattress and box spring.

Shed Skins and Egg Cases

Bed bugs molt five times before reaching adulthood. Pale, translucent shed skins in the folds of your mattress, behind headboards, or inside box springs are a strong indicator of an active infestation.

Unexplained Bites

Bites that appear overnight in a line, cluster, or zigzag pattern — typically on arms, shoulders, or neck — are a common first sign. Not everyone reacts to bites, so lack of visible bites doesn’t rule out bed bugs.

Musty Sweet Odor

A heavy infestation often produces a distinct sweet, musty smell — sometimes compared to berries or coriander. This odor comes from the bugs’ scent glands and is most noticeable in an enclosed space like a closet or under the bed.

Live Bugs

Adult bed bugs are about the size of an apple seed — flat, oval, and reddish-brown. They hide in mattress seams, bed frames, behind baseboards, inside electrical outlets, and in furniture joints. They are most active at night.

Dark Fecal Spots on Walls or Furniture

Tiny dark ink-like spots on walls, wallpaper edges, or upholstered furniture near where you sleep can indicate bed bug activity nearby. These spots will smear if wiped with a damp cloth.

Our Bed Bug Treatment Approach

Every bed bug job starts with a thorough inspection. We check the mattress, box spring, bed frame, headboard, nearby furniture, baseboards, and all other harborage points throughout the home. We treat the entire house — not just the bedroom — because bed bugs travel and hide well beyond where you sleep.

We use a combination of PT565 Plus XLO, Talstar P, and Bedlam Plus on every treatment. For severe infestations, Tempo Dust is added where needed. Treatments are priced per visit. Preparation by the customer is required before every service — full instructions are at regalpestmi.com/bed-bug-checklist.

We recommend three treatments, two weeks apart — even for minor infestations. Bed bug eggs hatch on a cycle that a single treatment cannot fully address. Each visit targets bugs that have hatched since the previous service. Stopping early is the most common reason infestations return.

What to Expect

Here’s how the process works from first call to follow-up.

1. Call or Request a Quote

Contact us by phone, text, or online. We’ll ask a few questions about what you’re seeing and get you scheduled as quickly as possible. Bed bug treatments are priced per visit.

2. Preparation Checklist

Preparation is required before every treatment. Full instructions are at regalpestmi.com/bed-bug-checklist. This includes washing and bagging all bedding and clothing in high heat, removing clutter, and moving furniture away from walls. Skipping prep compromises results.

3. Whole-House Treatment

We treat the entire home — not just the bedroom. Our technician covers mattress seams, box springs, bed frames, headboards, baseboards, furniture, and all harborage points throughout the house using PT565 Plus XLO, Talstar P, and Bedlam Plus. Tempo Dust is added for severe cases. All occupants and pets must vacate during treatment.

4. Re-Entry

You may return after surfaces are completely dry — typically 4 hours. Treated mattresses should be covered with a bed bug-proof encasement before use. We’ll provide specific instructions at the time of service.

5. Second Treatment (2 Weeks Later)

The second visit targets bed bugs that hatched from eggs after the first service. Preparation is required again. This is not optional — eggs laid before the first treatment will hatch in roughly 6–10 days and won’t be affected by the initial application.

6. Third Treatment (2 Weeks After That)

We recommend a third treatment for all infestations, including minor ones. This final visit addresses any remaining activity and confirms the infestation is resolved. Three treatments spaced two weeks apart is our standard recommendation across the board.

Preparation is required before every visit and is critical to treatment success. Full instructions are at regalpestmi.com/bed-bug-checklist. In general: wash and bag all bedding and clothing in high heat, remove clutter from the floor and under the bed, pull furniture away from walls, and vacate the home for several hours after treatment. Incomplete prep is the most common reason treatments underperform.

We recommend three treatments spaced two weeks apart — for all infestations, including minor ones. Bed bug eggs are not killed by contact insecticides and hatch on a cycle that a single treatment cannot fully address. Each visit targets bugs that have hatched since the previous service. Treatments are priced per visit. Stopping after one or two visits is the most common reason infestations come back.

No. All occupants, including pets, must vacate the home during treatment and for a period of time after — typically 4 hours or until surfaces are completely dry. We will provide specific re-entry instructions when you schedule.

Bed bugs are excellent hitchhikers. The most common sources are travel (hotels, rentals, transportation), used furniture or mattresses, visiting an infested location, or a neighboring unit in a shared building. They do not indicate poor hygiene — they can appear anywhere people sleep.

Yes. We treat single units as well as coordinated multi-unit treatments for apartment buildings, condos, and commercial properties. We work with property managers and building owners throughout Southeast Michigan.

We strongly recommend three treatments spaced two weeks apart for all infestations. Each treatment is priced per visit. Results depend significantly on proper preparation — customers who follow the preparation checklist and complete the recommended treatment schedule see the best outcomes.

Bed bugs are not known to transmit disease to humans. However, their bites can cause significant skin irritation, allergic reactions in some individuals, and the stress of an infestation can impact sleep and mental health. Secondary skin infections can occur from scratching bite sites.

In most cases, no. Mattresses can be successfully treated and then protected with a bed bug-proof encasement afterward. Disposing of a mattress is often unnecessary, expensive, and can spread bugs to other areas of the home or building during removal. We’ll advise on a case-by-case basis after inspection.

We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards.
