MUD DAUBER WASPS
What do they look like and when do they become a nuisance?
Mud dauber wasps are long, usually shiney black or metallic blue in appearance (some have yellow markings as well), and have a very thin abdomen. Their nests are usually attached to vertical flat surfaces and walls and are made out of mud. The nests appear to look like tubes or fingers.
Mud dauber wasps are solitary wasps and do not live in colonies. The wasps paralyze spiders and other insects and bring them to their nests for the larvae to feed on. Mud dauber wasps are non-agressive (as are all solitary wasps) and typically do not sting unless direct contact is made.
