Frequently Asked Questions

No questions matched. .
Possibly. The list covers our most common services but isn't exhaustive. Give us a call at 734-453-7221 or 1-866-453-7221 and we can tell you quickly whether we're able to help with your specific situation.
We do offer termite and VA pest inspections, but we don't perform termite treatment. Termite treatment requires specialized licensing and equipment beyond our current scope. We can perform your inspection and, if treatment is needed, point you in the right direction.
A termite inspection involves a visual examination of the property for signs of termite activity and conducive conditions. VA pest inspections are required for VA-backed home loans and follow specific guidelines set by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Both result in a written report. We do not perform termite treatment. If treatment is needed following an inspection, we can point you in the right direction. Learn more about VA pest inspections.
Mosquito control is highly dependent on conditions outside our control. Even if we do an exceptional job treating a property, mosquitoes from a neighboring lot with standing water or untreated vegetation can fly right over and the customer still has a problem. With most pests, we can bait, seal, or treat in ways that produce reliable results regardless of what's happening next door. Mosquitoes don't work that way. The outcome is too tied to neighboring properties, and that leads to disappointed customers through no fault of the treatment itself. We'd rather not offer a service where doing everything right still routinely falls short of what customers expect.
House flies, drain flies, and cluster flies respond well to source elimination and residual treatments, so those we handle at both residential and commercial accounts. Fruit flies and phorid flies are almost always a sanitation or plumbing issue at their source. Without fixing the root cause, chemical treatments have little lasting effect. If you're not sure what type of fly you have, a quick description over the phone usually tells us enough to point you in the right direction.
Gnat services are available at commercial locations only. Fungus gnats are the exception we do not treat anywhere. They are tied to overwatered soil or decaying organic matter, and without correcting the moisture source, chemical treatments provide little lasting benefit. If you're not sure what type of gnats you're dealing with, give us a call and we can help you figure it out.
Our bed bug treatment combines a pesticide application, fogging, and a perimeter spray. Occupants need to be out of the home for 4 hours following treatment. We do not offer heat treatments or canine (bed bug dog) inspections. For full details on what to expect before and after your service, visit our bed bug page.
Our wildlife services cover trapping, removal, and exclusion for a range of nuisance animals. The wildlife we service includes chipmunks, groundhogs, moles, opossums, raccoons, skunks, and squirrels. Bird services are available as well, though the scope varies by property type. Each wildlife service consists of an initial visit plus four follow-up visits. Bats, Canada geese, muskrats, shrews, snakes, voles, and woodpeckers are outside our service range. Our wildlife service terms page covers most common questions about how the service works. You can also visit our wildlife page for more detail.
Bird services vary depending on the property type and the species involved. It's worth knowing that nearly all bird species are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The three common exceptions are starlings, sparrows, and pigeons, which are unprotected and the most frequent targets of bird control work.

For residential properties, we primarily install vent guards (Deflecto brand) to prevent birds from entering dryer vents, bathroom exhaust vents, and similar openings. Starlings are the most common culprit getting into vents at homes.

For commercial properties, we offer a broader range of exclusion and deterrent options including exclusionary netting, bird spikes, spring wire systems, and mist nets. If you're dealing with a bird issue at a commercial location, call us to discuss the right approach for your situation.
Yes. We serve both residential and commercial customers throughout Southeast Michigan, including apartments, restaurants, grocery and retail, schools, office parks, and more. A small number of services (like gnat treatments) are available for commercial locations only. See our commercial services.
Yes. Our recurring service plans provide ongoing protection on a scheduled basis and are often the most cost-effective option for general pest control. One-time treatments are also available for specific situations. View our service plans to see what's included.
No. We do not require contracts for our services. You are not locked into anything, and there are no cancellation fees.
It depends on the size of the home and the nature of the service. A spray on a small home can be done in as little as 15 minutes, but when you factor in the full visit (arrival, inspection, treatment, and any conversation about what was found), most residential services run 35 to 45 minutes for a smaller home, around 45 minutes to an hour for a mid-sized home, and up to an hour or more for a larger property. Services involving interior treatment, multiple areas, or a more involved pest issue will naturally take longer. Your technician can give you a better estimate once they know what they're dealing with.
Our primary spray product is Talstar P (bifenthrin), a widely used professional-grade insecticide that is effective against a broad spectrum of pests. For ant control, we primarily use targeted baiting rather than a broadcast spray, which is more effective at eliminating the colony rather than just the ants you can see. We do offer proactive spray treatments for customers who want them, and many customers are on a regular spray schedule for general pest prevention. We also look for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) solutions whenever applicable, which means addressing conditions that contribute to pest activity rather than relying on chemical treatment alone. The specific product used can vary depending on the pest, the location, and the situation. If you have questions about a specific product used during your service, your technician or our office can provide the product label and safety data sheet.
The products we use are diluted to concentrations effective against the target pest, but they are still pesticides and should be treated as such. They are EPA-registered, applied by licensed technicians, and used in accordance with label directions, which are legally required. Before your service, your technician will go over any specific preparations needed and how long to stay out of treated areas.

We are licensed and trained in the safe application of pesticides and the proper conduct of pest control services. We are not, however, qualified to answer medical questions or advise on health-related concerns. If anyone in the home has a health condition, sensitivity, or concern about pesticide exposure (including pregnancy), please consult your primary care provider or a medical professional before scheduling service. That is simply outside our area of expertise, and we'd rather you get the right answer from someone qualified to give it.

For full details, visit our Risk/Benefit Information page. Product labels and safety data sheets are at regalpestmi.com/sds.
Yes on both counts. All of our technicians are licensed through the State of Michigan, and many hold multiple certification categories beyond the base license. Every technician is also fully insured.
We serve Southeast Michigan. Service offerings can occasionally change, so the fastest way to confirm is to call us at 734-453-7221 or 1-866-453-7221. No call menus, just a real person. You can also check our service area map online.
Not necessarily. If you only need an exterior treatment, your technician can take care of it without you being present. For new customers, payment is due at the time of service. If you won't be home, we can send an electronic invoice so you can pay online. We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards including American Express and Discover.
Typically within 24 to 48 hours. Same-day service is available depending on scheduling. Give us a call at 734-453-7221 and we can tell you what's available.
You can reach us by phone, email, or text. Online scheduling is coming soon. Call or text 734-453-7221, toll-free at 1-866-453-7221, or email [email protected].
Yes. All customers receive an automatic text and/or email 24 hours before their scheduled service. Service plan customers have an additional option: a 10-day advance notice so you can confirm the appointment or make changes before we arrive. If you prefer the standard 24-hour notice instead, that works too.
The most important thing is to make sure the property is ready for treatment. Clear clutter away from the walls and baseboards so the technician has access. If we're treating for a specific pest like cockroaches, avoid leaving out competing food sources (cooking oils, open food containers, and so on) that can interfere with baits. For bed bug services, there is a more detailed preparation checklist. Your technician or our office can walk you through what's needed before your visit.
It is entirely up to you. Some customers want the interior treated at every visit and request an in-and-out service each time. Others prefer exterior-only. Service plan customers typically receive an interior perimeter spray during the winter visit along with a rodent inspection, but that is always your call. If you tell us to stay exterior only or to skip a specific area, we will, and that preference does not affect your re-treat guarantee if one applies to your service.
Yes. Every customer receives a detailed work order and invoice after each visit. It shows exactly what product was used, where, and other relevant details about the service. Product labels and safety data sheets are also available at regalpestmi.com/sds or on request.
Post-treatment care can vary depending on the product and the service. Your work order will include any specific instructions, and your technician can answer questions before they leave. General post-treatment information is also available on our website. If you have questions after the fact, feel free to call or text us at 734-453-7221.
Garages and sheds are included in a standard exterior service. Crawl spaces and attics are not part of a standard spray. Attic services are typically for rodent or wildlife issues only. Crawl spaces are similar, though we will inspect for carpenter ants and wood-destroying insects when the situation calls for it.
Most stinging and seasonal pests are handled in one visit. One-time treatments typically cover: bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, boxelder bugs (September is the best time), stink bugs (September is best), cluster flies (September is best), lady beetles, carpet beetles, centipedes, crickets, earwigs, flies, gnats, millipedes, mites, moths, silverfish, sowbugs, spiders, springtails, and weevils. Carpenter bees usually warrant a follow-up, and springtails can be stubborn enough to need one as well.

We recommend two-week follow-up visits for ants, cockroaches, fleas, bed bugs, mice, and rats. These pests typically need more than one treatment to fully resolve, and the follow-up is a separate chargeable visit. After one or two follow-ups, many of these issues (ants, cockroaches, mice) can qualify for a re-treat guarantee.
Our service agreement and its guarantees apply to service plan customers. One-time service customers are afforded a 30-day re-treat from the date of last paid service as a standard practice — no written agreement required.

Service plan customers receive the strongest coverage: unlimited free re-service for covered pests between regular visits, year-round for standard plans and April 1 through October 31 for seasonal plans. If we cannot solve your pest problem to your satisfaction, we will credit or refund the cost of your last service. That is the extent of the financial guarantee — not a full refund of all payments, but the cost of the last service. We think that's fair, and in practice we work hard to make sure it never comes to that.
Most ant problems in Southeast Michigan involve slab ants or carpenter ants, and for both we primarily use gel bait applied with a syringe-like applicator rather than a broadcast spray. Baiting targets the colony rather than just the ants you can see.

One thing to be aware of: after baiting, it is common to see an increase in ant activity. That is actually a good sign. It means the bait is being found and taken back to the colony. Activity will then drop off noticeably over the following days. The temptation at that point is to think the problem is solved and skip the two-week follow-up. We strongly recommend against that. The follow-up is what finishes the job. The colony may look controlled, but without it, ants frequently return. Trust the process.
In the vast majority of cases we use rodenticide bait stations rather than traps. We use Contrac Blox or alternate between approved rodenticide baits placed inside locking, tamper-resistant bait stations. This approach is effective, reduces exposure risk, and limits access to the bait to the target pest. Traps are used in specific situations but represent a small fraction of our rodent services.
Exclusion work (sealing entry points with steel wool, caulking, and aluminum flashing) is available but is quoted and sold separately from a standard rodent treatment. If you are interested in exclusion as part of your service, let us know and we can assess what's needed and provide a separate quote.
Yes. Fall is the busiest season for overwintering pests in this area. Boxelder bugs, stink bugs, cluster flies, and Asian lady beetles all look to enter structures as temperatures drop, and September is typically the best time to treat for all of them. A perimeter treatment in early fall before they start migrating inside is far more effective than trying to deal with them once they're already in the walls. If you wait until you see them inside, you've largely missed the treatment window for that year.
Yes on both. We offer a referral program at regalpestmi.com/refer. For neighbors getting a one-time treatment at the same time, we can discount for the group. Neighbor discounts apply to one-time services only and are not available for service plan pricing. Give us a call for details.
We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards including American Express and Discover. Payment is due at the time of service for new customers. If you won't be home at the time of service, we can send an electronic invoice for online payment. Existing customers may qualify for net 30 terms. Contact us to ask about eligibility. You can also pay online anytime at regalpestmi.com/pay.
Yes. Every customer gets the same attention and respect regardless of the size or value of the job. A customer paying $50 for a one-time treatment is not any less important than a large commercial account. Properties are treated differently because they have different needs, but the people are always treated the same.

The information on this page is general in nature. For questions specific to your situation, contact us directly. For medical questions or health-related concerns regarding pesticide exposure, please consult your primary care provider or a qualified medical professional. We are licensed and trained in the safe application of pesticides. Medical advice is outside our scope of expertise.
