Mice Control in Southeast Michigan

Mice are one of the most common rodent problems in Southeast Michigan homes and businesses. House mice and deer mice are the species we encounter most frequently. Mice can squeeze through openings as small as a dime and reproduce rapidly, making early treatment and proper exclusion critical to preventing a small problem from becoming a large infestation.

Beyond the nuisance, mice pose real health risks - they contaminate food and surfaces with droppings and urine, and deer mice can carry Hantavirus. They also chew through wiring, insulation, and structural materials.

Identification

Two mouse species are commonly encountered in Southeast Michigan. Here is what to look for.

House Mouse

Small, gray-brown rodent, 2–4 inches body length with a long tail. Pointed snout, large ears. Nests indoors year-round and is most active at night. Leaves small dark droppings roughly the size of a grain of rice.

Deer Mouse (White-Footed Mouse)

Brown on top, white underbelly and feet. Similar size to the house mouse but with a bicolored tail. Commonly enters structures in fall as temperatures drop. A known carrier of Hantavirus.

Signs of Activity

Droppings along walls and in cabinets, gnaw marks on food packaging or wiring, nesting material (shredded insulation or paper), and scratching sounds in walls at night are all indicators of a mouse problem.

How We Treat

Effective mouse control requires a two-part approach: elimination and exclusion. We inspect your property to identify entry points, active travel routes, and nesting areas. Interior and exterior bait stations and trapping are used to reduce the existing population. We then identify and document key entry points so they can be sealed - without exclusion, new mice will continue to enter.

FAQ

Mice can squeeze through openings as small as a dime - roughly 1/4 inch. Common entry points include gaps around utility pipes, cracks in the foundation, poorly sealed doors and windows, and openings along the roofline. A thorough exclusion inspection is the best way to identify and address these vulnerabilities.
Yes. Mice contaminate food and surfaces with droppings, urine, and saliva. Deer mice can transmit Hantavirus, a serious respiratory illness spread through contact with their droppings or urine. Mice also chew through electrical wiring, which is a fire hazard, and can damage insulation and structural materials.
Very quickly. A female house mouse can produce 5–10 litters per year, with 5–6 pups per litter. A small problem can become a significant infestation within weeks. Early treatment is strongly recommended as soon as signs of activity are noticed.
Mice seek warmth as temperatures drop, so fall and winter are peak seasons for mouse activity inside structures. If entry points are not sealed, mice will return year after year. Our service plans include fall mouse coverage with re-services as needed to keep your home protected through the colder months.
