Cockroaches are resilient pests that reproduce quickly and can be difficult to eliminate without professional treatment. The German cockroach is by far the most common species found indoors in Michigan, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms. A cockroach problem rarely resolves on its own , populations grow rapidly if left untreated.

Identification
Michigan has several species that fall under this pest category. Here is what to look for.
German Cockroach
Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head. About 12-15mm. The most common indoor cockroach in Michigan. Reproduces extremely rapidly.
American Cockroach
Reddish-brown and much larger, up to 50mm. More common in commercial settings, sewers, and basements. Sometimes called a palmetto bug.
Oriental Cockroach
Shiny black, about 25mm. Prefers cool, damp areas like basements and drains. Emits a strong musty odor.
